- Ascoli Piceno is the most southern city in Le Marche. Ascoli’s backdrop is the wonderful Sibillini Mountains. It is older than Rome and a truly medieval City. Ascoli is a must see place, it has a very large number of beautiful Romanesque churches, many towers and countless Palazzos. All built using the local Travertino stone. The show peace is Piazza del Popolo, also called Il Salotto “ The Lounge”, considered one of the prettiest squares in Italy.
