- Loreto is perhaps the second most important place of pilgrimage in Europe and is much older than the French town of Lourdes. Its origins can be traced back to the end of the 13th century. Tradition says that the house in Nazareth where Jesus lived after his return from Egypt was transported here by the Angels. A place to visit even if you aren’t a person of Faith.
